Cancelling a building society’s registration
When registration can be cancelled
There are several situations that can result in a building society’s registration being cancelled.
Building societies registration can be cancelled:
- by the union of 2 or more societies (section 32 the Building Societies Act 1965 (the Act))
- by liquidation when the liquidation provisions of the Companies Act 1993 apply (section 118 of the Act)
- by conversion to a company (Part 7A of the Act) or
- when the society is dissolved in accordance with its rules and with the Act (sections 114 and 115 of the Act).
